If you missed our Fall Meeting, I must say you missed what will probably be one of the most difficult chapter meetings to ever top. My deepest thanks go to Doodle Lyle, Steve Haynie, and the Asheville bunch for helping this weekend run so smoothly. Our speakers were excellent, and I think we all still have our jaws gaping over Jack Davis' live drawing session, Duck Edwing's outrageous mind, Michael Jantze's amazing sequential art animation demo, Dwane Powell and Cullum Rogers putting on an editorial cartooning tour de force, and Andy Smith's fantastic comic work! The dinners at the Fiddlin' Pig Friday night and Vincenzo's on Saturday evening couldn't have been better. And as if that weren't enough, closing the festivities with the jam session was the icing on the cake! Thanks also to those who contributed to a successful auction and to Dwane Powell for his art for the t-shirt and poster. I also want to thank my dear friend Nick Meglin for using his longtime friendship and professional association with Jack Davis and Duck Edwing to bring this about. And I thank my son Jon for his incredible sculpture of the bas-relief Davis Award which we presented to Jack. And, as Doodle so aptly put it, we all have an amazing God to thank for His gift of creativity which has been showered on all of these people we enjoyed as well as ourselves. I'm sure you all will be uploading pictures here for those who missed it, and I have a few on my website here - http://www.jptoonist.com/Duck.html Believe it or not, the wheels are already turning for next year's meeting which will be in Raleigh, NC. But for now, let's catch our breath and enjoy the reflections of this past weekend. Jack Chairman, SECNCS |
